Biography
Dr David Smyth is an Interventional and Structural Cardiologist located in Christchurch. He currently consults at the Christchurch Hospital, where he has held a number of leadership roles including his former role as the Director of the Cardiac Catheter Laboratory. He also works in private practice at the Christchurch Heart Group and consults at the St George’s Hospital.
Dr Smyth has a special interest and expertise in interventional cardiology, specifically coronary angioplasty and stenting, and transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI). He has consistently remained as a top volume stenting operator across the country and performs many of the most complex interventional procedures.
After completing his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery, Dr Smyth trained at the St Bartholomew’s Hospital Medical College followed by specialty cardiology training at the Kings College Hospital, London.
Once he obtained his fellowship, Dr Smyth consulted at the Waikato Hospital and later, the Wellington Hospital.
He has considerable experience and knowledge across all forms of heart conditions since becoming a consultant cardiologist over 25 years ago.
